Sitting between Vauxhall in the east and Battersea in the west, Nine Elms
(...) is the final part and key element of the London Mayoral development plan. Embassy Gardens lies within the Nine Elms regeneration area, the largest regeneration project in Central London and has enthusiastic support from the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who describes it as a catalyst for economic growth and regeneration, with 16,000 new homes planned and an employment capacity exceeding 25,000. With the creation of an entirely new London waterside district spanning almost 500 acres, an area equivalent to Mayfair and Belgravia combined, this potentially represents the last opportunity to create a new area in central London from a former, totally untouched landscape. The decision that the US Embassy took in choosing the adjacent Nine Elms site provides prestige and gravitas to the whole Nine Elms area and is set to give rise to a new geo political international quarter: 'The Third City'. © Peter Marlow | Magnum Photos
