Magnum Contact Sheet Prints tell as much of a story as the single image that goes on to become iconic: they reveal the befores, the afters, and the almost theres, that surround some of the most iconic photographs.
A selection of historic Contact Sheets by Magnum photographers are available as high quality, unsigned, contemporary 16×20″ prints. These contact prints offer the opportunity to own a piece of Magnum’s history.
These black and white images are a portrait of Iran’s political atmosphere in 1979. This contact sheet shows images of the Iran hostage crisis, where US diplomats were held against their will for 444 days. Abbas photographs the Iranian crowd outside the United States Embassy in Tehran, with intimate close ups of armed militants alongside members of the crowd.
Abbas’ images in Iran during this time showcase the tension between the US and Iran and the failed attempt to free the hostages.
