Description

A selection of historic Contact Sheets by Magnum photographers are available as high quality, unsigned, contemporary 16×20″ prints. These contact prints offer the opportunity to own a piece of Magnum’s history.

Part of Nikos Economopoulos series Life in The Balkans, this contact sheet portrays an intimate culture in Albania. Shot in the Central Railway station in Tirana, 1991, the images capture a way of life that is correlated with poverty. Here Albanians hop onto the train casually via window, livestock ranges openly on the streets, and the villagers share truck rides huddled together on a pickup truck. These portraits and street photographs show not only an economic reality but also a way of life that is ongoing.

Economopoulos joined Magnum in 1990, and his photographs started appearing in newspapers and magazines around the world. In the same period, he started traveling and photographing extensively around the Balkans. This won the “Mother Jones Award” (San Francisco, CA) for work in progress. Upon the completion of his Balkans project in 1994, he became a full member of Magnum Photos.

Giclée print, 16×20”, stamped w. Uneditioned.

Reproducing the original without alteration and enlarged to a 16″x20″ paper size, these Magnum Contacts offer a unique insight into the methods by which our photographers produced some of their best known images, by clearly showing the sequence of frames and the marks of the editing process on each sheet.

These prints are embossed ‘Magnum Photos Collection’ on the white border in the bottom right corner and hand stamped with the photographers copyright on the back.
