Description

A selection of historic Contact Sheets by Magnum photographers are available as high quality, unsigned, contemporary 16×20″ prints. These contact prints offer the opportunity to own a piece of Magnum’s history.

Mark Power captures abstract images of a Dalmatian dog against the sheer white of the snow in Ursynów, Warsaw, Poland, 2005. In this contact sheet the snow and white of the photographs merges and nearly consumes everything, turning an urban district, into sheer white. Here the horizon is blurred as the sky matches the landscape. These medium format negatives photographed on Kodak 160 VC Portra.

Power’s had an interest in photography probably although he later chose to study painting and drawing instead. He ‘became a photographer’ (somewhat accidentally) in 1983, and worked in the editorial and charity markets for nearly ten years, before he began teaching in 1992 (Power is currently the Professor of Photography at the University of Brighton). Mark Power joined Magnum Photos in 2002.

Giclée print, 16×20”, stamped w. Uneditioned.

Reproducing the original without alteration and enlarged to a 16″x20″ paper size, these Magnum Contacts offer a unique insight into the methods by which our photographers produced some of their best known images, by clearly showing the sequence of frames and the marks of the editing process on each sheet.

These prints are embossed ‘Magnum Photos Collection’ on the white border in the bottom right corner and hand stamped with the photographers copyright on the back.
