Description

Jacob Aue Sobol’s pictures taken in Milwaukee form part of the collaborative project, Postcards From America, whereby 11 Magnum photographers set out to capture interactions and relationships that define places across America through multiple perspectives. As ever, Sobol finds an intimate connection with his subjects, preferring to find what brings us together, rather than what sets us apart. “I always look for the things we have in common – not what’s strange or different. I look for things we share, and most often that’s our emotional life. A young couple falling in love in Moscow is the same as a couple in Beijing.”

For me photography is a way to get to know another person - insisting that we have something to share as humans and that every encounter can be a beautiful moment
