Magnum on family life during the pandemic, on National Geographic
Images taken by Magnum photographers, documenting time spent with and apart from family during isolation, are now on National Geographic’s website as part of a new co-production with Magnum Photos. This week’s installment, the first in the series, can be viewed here. The updates will also feed into a new series of image curations by Magnum photographer Peter van Agtmael called Diary of a Pandemic. See the latest of these selections here on Magnum.

Jonas Bendiksen’s kids in quarantine in The Telegraph
Magnum photographer Jonas Bendiksen’s images of his family have been featured in a piece on The Telegraph. Speaking to the newspaper about life at home with two young children, Bendiksen said, “Even on a normal day, they go stir crazy if we stay at home. Now? We’re all going ballistic. Bendiksen also appeared with his children on a recent takeover of Magnum’s Instagram account. Antoine d’Agata documents locked-down Paris and medical response its suburbs
Libération featured Antoine d’Agata’s photographs of public spaces in Paris on the cover and inside of its weekend edition of the paper this Saturday and Sunday.
The French newspaper also sent d’Agata on assignment to document the response to the pandemic in Taverny in the Val-d’Oise department of France—one of the country’s worst-affected regions. The town, which is located 13 miles outside of the center of Paris, is organizing itself by creating an improvised medical center in a gymnasium. Read the piece in print, and online here.
Jérôme Sessini’s photographs Cornimont mayor for Libération
Marie-Josèphe Clément, mayor of the village in eastern France where 20 residents of a retirement home died last week after contracting coronavirus, was photographed by Jérôme Sessini for Libération. The village is situated near Mulhouse, the city Sessini has also photographed for L’Obs, where it is thought that an individual from the residence caught the illness from. See the piece here.
Jean Gaumy’s act of kindness shared by Vogue
An article exploring the social and cultural impacts of coronavirus through examples of altruism around the world features Jean Gaumy’s image of his next-door neighbour whom he has recently been assisting with grocery shopping. The picture, first in their line-up, appears in the British, Italian, Russian, German and Mexican editions of the website. Read it in English here.
Peter van Agtmael’s photographs of workers on The Nation
The Nation dedicates a new weekly series to depicting the unsung and unseen workers who are supporting key services throughout the coronavirus outbreak, in collaboration with the Magnum Foundation. The inaugural feature focuses on images made by Peter van Agtmael in New York City. The photographer said, “In these times, distance is the most responsible choice. I hope these images convey respect while celebrating [the workers’] essential and courageous role in our lives.” See the piece here.
