Description

For ten years, Magnum photographer Larry Towell documented the lives of Mexican Mennonite migrant farm workers both in Ontario and in their insular desert colonies of Mexico. He produced one of the most beautiful and award winning photography books of the decade. In the process, he began recording the sixteenth century hymns of Old Colony Mennonites and the sounds from their natural environments. Larry’s spoken word with producer Jeff Bird of the Cowboy Junkies have textured a haunting and beautiful forty-five minute sound track using original field recordings, piano, bass, flute, accordion, jaw’s harp, musical saw, “natural” instruments and the vocal accompaniment of Gwen Swick. This highly innovative CD is for anyone with a penchant for music, photography, and the art of storytelling.
