In 1992, drawn to people who — like himself — were trying to find their way in a new place, Chien-Chi Chang began a project on immigrants living in New York City’s Chinatown under no legal protection. This image of a newly-arrived immigrant eating noodles on a fire escape was captured in 1998. One year later, Chang was awarded the prestigious W.
