Description

In 1977, Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Silver Jubilee, marking 25 years on the throne. Celebrations took place throughout the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth that year, culminating in June with the “Jubilee Days,” held to coincide with the Queen’s birthday. Ian Berry, who first photographed the monarch on her first official state visit to Ghana in 1961, was one of the several Magnum photographers present to document the festivities and celebrations that took place in the United Kingdom throughout the year. Pictured above, Queen Elizabeth II smiles broadly as she passes a crowd of people waiting to see her in London.
