Magnum Contact Sheet Prints tell as much of a story as the single image that goes on to become iconic: they reveal the befores, the afters, and the almost theres, that surround some of the most iconic photographs.
A selection of historic Contact Sheets by Magnum photographers are available as high quality, unsigned, contemporary 16×20″ prints. These contact prints offer the opportunity to own a piece of Magnum’s history.
In this contact sheet, Richard Kalvar captures New Yorkers peering against a glass window in 1969. Kalver plays with portraiture and composition, taken in symmetry as the subjects observe their reflections, with body parts pressed against the glass of a storefront in New York City.
Richard Kalvar has been associated with Magnum since 1975. In 1975, he became an associate member of Magnum, and a full member two years later. He has subsequently served as vice-president and president of the agency.

Reproducing the original without alteration and enlarged to a 16″x20″ paper size, these Magnum Contacts offer a unique insight into the methods by which our photographers produced some of their best known images, by clearly showing the sequence of frames and the marks of the editing process on each sheet.
These prints are embossed ‘Magnum Photos Collection’ on the white border in the bottom right corner and hand stamped with the photographers copyright on the back.
