Description

Saut d’Eau Waterfalls, Haiti. Abbas. 2000.

Pilgrims, who come to the Saut d’Eau Waterfalls from all over the country – as well as the diaspora – to take a “fortune bath” with medicinal herbs and perfumes and ask that their loas (personal or family spirits) to strengthen them, disgarding their underclothes.

The magic of voodoo is very much alive in Haiti today, five centuries after it was introduced by the slaves, and 200 years after it helped African tribes unite against the French colonists in their fight for independence. This cult, dedicated to the spirits of nature as well as those of the ancestors, houses many rituals.

Highest quality poster sized at 16×20” and hand-stamped with the official Magnum Collection stamp for authentication.
