Watch: Live Lab London

A short film follows three Magnum photographers through the creative process from idea, to shooting, processing and editing, as they produce a new body of work live in London

Magnum Photographers

In May 2017, three Magnum photographers held a residency in the Magnum Print room in the Clerkenwell area of London. Mark Power, Carl de Keyzer and Olivia Arthur worked alongside each other and Museum of London curator Anna Sparham, to respond to the locality and to transform the Print Room into a working lab for a two-week period, printing and editing on site.

This short film follows the process, from concepting ideas, to producing the shoots, then developing and editing images to create a final curation, which now open to visitors at the Magnum Print Room. As well as giving an insight into the working practices of three Magnum photographers and a curator, the film also amplifies their three distinct voices and passions: Olivia Arthur opted to explore the legacy of the contemporary local immigrant community; Mark Power applied his architectural eye to the urban spaces with their layers of history; and Carl de Keyzer played on his status as a visitor to the city to explore the serendipity of London on foot.

The Magnum Live Lab is made possible thanks to the kind support of the Arts Council England, King’s Cross, The Hoxton, The Museum of London, F24, and Vovos Better World Fund.
