Look it’s Getting Sunny Outside!!!

Sohrab Hura has spoken to The Hindu newspaper about his latest book Look it’s Getting Sunny Outside!!!, which documents home life with his schizophrenic mother and her relationship with their family dog in a series of intimate photographs. “…it didn’t [make] sense to be photographing other people’s lives if I had not photographed my own. I needed to also put at stake my own vulnerabilities before I could take responsibility for someone else’s,” Hura told the publication. Read the feature here.

Richard Nixon by Raymond Depardon

As Raymond Depardon’s work made in America during the 1960s continues to show at Arles, French publication Le Point spoke to the photographer about his iconic picture of Richard Nixon stepping off the plane in Sioux City, Iowa, his hands aloft making ‘V for victory’ gestures, an American flag waving in the foreground. “It perfectly symbolizes the America of that time. The political debate was feeding on the Vietnam War, which Nixon promised to end. This V for victory is emblematic of his campaign to succeed President Lyndon B. Susan Meiselas on Nicaragua

Susan Meiselas has spoken in depth to The New York Times about her recent return to Nicaragua and her practice. Read the feature here. The career-spanning feature also explores the back catalogue of the prolific photographer, much of which is currently on display in her retrospective at SFMoMA. “It’s astonishing how rich a narrative Susan knits around her work,” Corey Keller, the museum’s curator of photography, told the publication. “She facilitates the voices of people who might not otherwise have their stories told.”

Gregory Halpern’s Confederate Moons

New Magnum nominee Gregory Halpern’s book Confederate Moons has been featured in Huck magazine’s article about the TWB annual book series, which includes the publication.  “I was fascinated by the idea that the entire nation was staring at the sun, revelling in the apocalyptic thrill of watching the moon temporarily extinguish our life-source, all together,” Halpern is quoted as saying. Magnum nominee Diana Markosian has been interviewed by Armenian Weekly about her career and her most recent projects. On the photographer’s series on swimming lessons for refugee children, the author writes, “Markosian documents the faces, bodies, the narratives, and the lives of refugee children who survived the harrowing journeys with great sensitivity.” Read the feature here.

Holiday Snaps

As the hot summer rolls on, W magazine took a look at the reality of life at the beach. The article, which includes archival and contemporary work from different photographers, features several of Martin Parr’s photos from Kilkee in Ireland, Margate and Weymouth in England, and Benidorm in Spain. First Look: Fondation HCB’s New Home

Fondation Henri Carter-Bresson is moving to a new home in Le Marais, Paris on November 6, 2018. The new space will provide double the exhibition room, a bigger research area, street-level access, and close proximity to nearby institutions the Maison Européenne de la photographie, The Pompidou Centre, the Museum Picasso, the Museum Carnavalet, and the forthcoming Pinault Foundation.
