Dennis Stock’s vision of counter-culture California

Dennis Stock’s book, California Trip, was the result of his exploration of the state at the height of its countercultural heyday. From back-to-the-land hippy communes to biker gangs and anti-war protesters, Stock’s vision of the Golden State and its roadways, modernist architecture and inhabitants has been revisited by The Washington Post.

You can see the Post piece here. Artsy also covered the project – with both articles noting the forthcoming reissue of the seminal book by Anthology Editions.

You can see more images from the project and read about the work in Stock’s own words on the Magnum site here.

A selection of images from California Trip are now available as fine prints, on the Magnum Shop.
