Sohrab Hura on creating intentional incoherence

Sohrab Hura has been interviewed by Studio International about his latest book, The Coast. Hura discusses drawing readers and viewers into his work with seemingly traditional narrative, before allowing that narrative to ‘collapse’ – encouraging incoherence to reign.

Richard Kalvar’s Photo Poche on the LA Review of Books

This extended review of Richard Kalvar’s entry in the Photo Poche/Photofile book series takes his photograph of a naked man on New York’s Brooklyn Bridge in 1969 as a starting point for delving into his career-long effort to play with “ordinary reality”, creating “impromptu dramas” from the seemingly every day.

Gregory Halpern’s photographs of the scrap industry in Buffalo

For this New York Times Magazine feature Gregory Halpern teamed up with his brother to explore the life of scrap metal in post-industrial America, and to profile one particulary enterprising scrapper in Buffalo, New York.

Carnival Strippers on BBC Culture

The BBC have covered the ongoing three-photographer show in Arles, Unretouched Women, which features work by Magnum photographers Eve Arnold and Susan Meiselas. The feature dwells specifically on Meiselas’ 1970s project Carnival Strippers, and the ‘disarming intimacy’ of those images.

Thomas Dworzak for Libération

Numerous reenactors gathered last week to mark the 75^th anniversary of the liberation of Paris. Magnum photographer Thomas Dworzak was there to cover the events for French newspaper Libération.
