Emin Özmen photographs Turkey’s threatened intellectuals

Ankara University’s faculty of political science has, in the words of the New York Times, ‘Dominated the education of Turkey’s ruling class’ for more than a century. Now, the Erdogan regime has set to dismantling it, one intellectual at a time. Turkish photographer Emin Özmen has made a series of portraits of the faculty members purged from office. Patrick Zachmann’s Notre Dame work on the cover of TIME

Patrick Zachmann’s documentation of the efforts to secure Paris’ iconic cathedral – gutted by fire on April 15 of this year – has been featured on TIME Magazine’s website, and will also feature on the cover of the international print edition.

The French photographer’s ongoing coverage of the herculean effort to save the site has previously been published in L’OBS. You can see that feature here, and you can also see his recent work on renewed excavation and restoration projects – in Pompeii – on Magnum here.

Miguel Rio Branco’s vision of metropolises around the world

Huck Magazine has featured a selection of Miguel Rio Branco’s photographs from his newly rereleased book, Maldicidade. The work spans nations and decades, but the images themselves are unified by their encapsulation of the dirt, violence, beauty and lust of modern city life. You can see a selection of the images on Huck, here. A wider selection will be available on Magnum’s site on Monday 5 August, along with a text by Rio Branco.
