Magnum China

The Financial Times feature on the new book Magnum China explores the changes in the political and societal landscapes of China through both early and recent works of Magnum photographers, including Robert Capa’s coverage of the Sino-Japanese war in 1938; Henri Cartier-Bresson’s images of the Civil War in 1948; rallies during the cultural revolution captured by Bruno Barbey; Stuart Franklin’s record of the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre; Martin Parr’s photos of China during its shift toward consumerism, and Jim Goldberg’s candid shots in Beijing made last year. Behind the Scenes of The Bureau

Magnum photographers Jérôme Sessini, Patrick ZachmannGueorgui Pinkhassov and Emin Özmen were asked to shoot behind-the-scenes of Season 4 of the critically acclaimed French political TV series Le Bureau des Légendes (The Bureau). Wild, Wild West

Between 1979 and 2011, David Hurn spent time in America, where he explored the cactus-lined southwestern state of Arizona and recorded the daily lives of its inhabitants. Read Swiss-German newspaper Tages-Anzeiger’s feature on David Hurn’s Arizona here.

Nigerian Independence

Sim Chi Yin in the Press

New Magnum nominee Sim Chi Yin has given interviews about her practice, available to read online. Art Radar‘s article focuses on the photographer’s project exploring nuclear sites, currently on show at ICA Singapore, which closes on October 10. Read the feature here. Magnum Photos x Create Jobs

In partnership with Create Jobs, Magnum Photos is offering a free 5-week photography course to unemployed Londoners aged 18 to 24 years. Magnum nominee, Lua Ribera, will mentor students to create images that respond to a brief developed with It’s Nice That, one of London’s top creative agencies and publishers. The works will then be exhibited at Protein Studios on November 22.

This workshop is free of charge and travel and lunch expenses will be covered. The deadline for applications is October 8. Click here to apply.

Magnum Photos Submissions 2019

Since its founding in 1947, Magnum Photos remains to be a co-operative owned agency, run and administered by its pioneering member photographers who are at the forefront of photojournalism. The public is invited to submit photographic works to be considered in order to become a “Nominee Member” of Magnum Photos. The deadline for submissions is midnight GMT January 31st 2019.
